You know how frustrating it is as an adult to have a stuffy nose — now imagine a baby who doesn’t understand why he’s congested or how to relieve it. NeilMed® has launched a new battery-operated nasal aspirator that parents can use to safely and effectively suction their baby’s stuffy or congested nose.

Most of the time babies experience congestion from upper respiratory tract infections or other similar causes. Children typically can’t effectively blow their nose until they are 3–4 years of age. Therefore, many babies and young children suffer from impaired breathing, feeding, and eating, as well as disrupted sleep. But you can help to relieve them through the use of certain products.

The NeilMed Nasal Aspirator uses gentle, steady suction to clear stuffy noses. With soft, flexible silicone tips, the device is comfortable for baby and is free of BPA and latex. There also is a light that can be turned on during use. To use the aspirator, you’ll hold your baby in a semi-upright position. Turn on the power and insert the tip of the aspirator into your baby’s nose. Repeat as needed in each nostril.

If the mucus is especially thick and impacted, it’s recommended to use products such as NeilMed® Naspira Drops™ Sterile Saline Ampoules or NeilMed® PediaMist® Nasal Saline Spray as a pretreatment to help loosen mucus before suctioning out the nostril. NeilMed’s goal is to create safe, effective, simple, and affordable products for nasal and sinus care.

Be sure to clean the aspirator after each use. The silicon tip and collection cup also are dishwasher safe in the top rack. The body of the aspirator can be wiped down with a soft, dry cloth.

The aspirator retails for $24.99 and is available at NeilMed.com or on Amazon. Two AA batteries are included with the device.
