4 Tips Make Traveling With a Newborn Less Stressful

The idea of traveling with a newborn (and all of their gear) may be a bit daunting at best. Here are a few tips to help you and your family jet-set with ease.

Check Your Expectations

Before I had kids, all non-work trips meant pure relaxation to me. Packing included novels, the latest magazines and tanning oil. The first beach trip I took with my baby opened my eyes to how much was involved. It was anything but relaxing! I needed a major shift in my perspective. Once I realized that trips were now about family bonding and new experiences for my little one, my husband and me, I was able to enjoy these family trips more.

Manage Your Gear

Call the resort or hotel ahead of time and see what amenities they have for babies. Many hotels and condos have cribs and high chairs you can reserve. There are also companies that specialize in all of your baby rental needs while at the beach. This is a huge help for not over-packing and ending up stressed before you ever leave your driveway! They may even have a sitter service they can recommend so you can get a parent’s night out on your trip.

Pack Smart

Bring items that can do double-duty for your baby. A rock-n-play is lightweight and can transition easily from condo to a shady spot by the pool or beach. Consider packing an infant carrier instead of bringing your bulky stroller. Ergo Baby is my personal favorite carrier. It comes in a cooler mesh option that is perfect for the warmer months. Wearing your baby will allow you to be hands-free while allowing the baby to be snuggled close. aden + anais Muslin swaddle blankets are great and lightweight for sleeping at the beach and also make the perfect sun barrier and nursing cover.

Take a Chill Pill

Adopt the vacation mentality of not living by the clock. Sure you don’t want a fussy overtired baby but napping on the beach instead of in the crib upstairs is fine. Pushing bedtime to enjoy a poolside sunset as a family won’t result in mass catastrophe. Skipping bath time and story time to snuggle by the ocean will only leave great memories of a vacation well spent. Relax and enjoy soaking in time as a family!
