If you’ve never considered chiropractic care for your baby or your family, you might be missing out on one of the most effective ways to take care of your baby and yourself. A child’s wellbeing is top of the priority list for parents, and chiropractic care is a safe and easy way to ensure your baby is staying healthy. Don’t be intimidated or worried—with a trained professional chiropractor, your baby is in great hands. Read on to find out what exactly baby chiropractic care is and how it can help.

What is Baby Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a great way to keep your body functioning at its fullest capacity. The brain is the control room of your body, and it sends signals to the rest of your body through nerves. When the body isn’t properly aligned, a block in these signals can occur, called a subluxation.

Subluxations can be caused by any sort of trauma, and one of the most traumatic things a human body goes through is birth. Some studies show that as many as three out of 10 infants fracture his/her collarbone during the birthing process. That is just one example of how traumatic the process can be!

From the moment we take our first breath, our body can be subluxated and not functioning at its highest ability. In adults, this often manifests as pain and mobility issues. In infants and kids, it can manifest in a wide variety of symptoms. An infant’s symptoms could include colic, vomiting, reflux, excessive fussiness, poor sleep, improper nursing/eating, improper developmental progression, and much more.

How Does Baby Chiropractic Care Work?

Baby receives chiropractic care

Treatment for symptoms due to subluxation is a noninvasive chiropractic adjustment. This involves mild pressure on the baby’s spine in the area of the subluxation. This can remove nerve interference and allow our brains to send signals to our body properly. Results are often immediate and you might notice a positive change in the baby’s demeanor. Parents are always surprised at how much better their child feeds, sleeps, and manages digestion. Symptoms often completely resolve after just a few treatments.

Dr. Charles Hogan, a chiropractor with Memphis Spine and Sport Chiropractic Rehab says, “Children who come into our office are always excited to get adjusted. They know when they are done, their bodies are going to feel great, and you can always see the change in their expression and demeanor.”

Parents need not worry, baby chiropractic care is completely safe. When adjusting an infant, Dr. Hogan describes the pressure as “the same amount of pressure used to push on your own eyeball.” Usually, there isn’t even a noise or “pop” as is commonly heard with an adult adjustment.

Chiropractic care also is considered safer in relation to alternative treatments for the same conditions. Medications can have a wide variety of side effects (sometimes dangerous). There is often no need for medication for these common conditions when they can be resolved naturally, safely, quickly, and without side effects.

Stay Healthy!

Chiropractic care is a great way to keep our kids healthy. Many children who receive proper chiropractic care are able to avoid medication or surgery. Things like ear infections or reflux often respond amazingly to chiropractic care.

Children who are adjusted frequently will have the tools to continue development and work towards a life with less nerve interference. Research local chiropractors in your area and find the best care for the whole family.
