Have you heard of Amazon Kids+? This all-in-one subscription (previously known as FreeTime) provides unlimited access to thousands of kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, music, educational apps, games, and premium kid’s tech-focused skills. It also allows parents to set up parental controls on the devices, ensuring their children enjoy this service with safe browsing and restrictions.
What Is Amazon Kids+?
The subscription offers thousands of age-appropriate books, movies, and TV shows for children aged 3 to 12 years old starting at just $2.99 per month for Prime members. Parents can access content from the Amazon Kids+ app on supported Android/iOS device and/or via Amazon devices registered to the subscribed account. And the content within the subscription is frequently updated.
How Does Amazon Kid+ Work, Exactly?
The Amazon Kids+ app allows parents to adjust settings specifically so that kids don’t see ads, in-app purchases, or links to external websites and social media. In other words, it gives them freedom to browse parent-approved content.
According to Amazon, content will appear in your child’s profile when your device is connected to a wireless network. This content can be downloaded for offline use on Amazon Devices. You will need an internet connection to use this content on Android, iOS and Amazon Glow devices, however, and it can’t be downloaded.
You can receive a free 1-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ via an Amazon Kids Edition Device purchase, should you choose. If you decide to keep the subscription, your preferred payment method will renew automatically at the end of the subscription period at the applicable monthly rate.
Additionally, you’ll need a valid payment method to sign up and to pay for the Amazon Kids+ subscription. An Amazon Gift Card or Amazon Store Card can’t be used to purchase the subscription.
For iOS, you can subscribe to Amazon Kids+ and manage your account through iTunes. See Amazon Kids+ on iOS App Store for more information. You can also manage or cancel your Amazon Kids+ subscription at any time from Your Account or the Parent Dashboard.

Is It Worth It?
If COVID taught us anything, it’s that we as parents have to get creative while keeping our children at home. Subscriptions like Amazon Kids+ are a great way to make the most of your children’s screen time in a safe, regulated way while also giving them the freedom to browse and select their own content. (Amazon has other great options as well, including those for non-digital content, such as Amazon Book Box!)
Our verdict is that it’s certainly worth taking advantage of the free subscription with the purchase of a compatible device. And for the low price of $4.99 per month, it’s worth skipping a cup of coffee every once in a while to ensure your family has access to this immense library of parent-approved, kid-friendly digital content!
Plus, the Kindle Kids e-Reader will be at an all-time low price of just $50 for Prime Day this year and include a year’s worth of access to Amazon Kids+ for free!
