Splash Pads in and Around Huntsville

What better way is there to beat the Alabama heat than to visit one of Huntsville’s many splash pads? They are awesome for any age! Here are a few of my favorites.

Huntsville Botanical Garden Fountains/Pollywog Bog

This is a hidden gem found in the Children’s Garden. Head straight to the back of the garden to discover the hidden Pollywog Bog, a pebble bottom wading pool with several fountains squirting water from all sides. There is also a stone pathway inside for children to “leapfrog” their way from one side to another. Surrounding the bog is a wooden walkway, a place to sit under the trees and have lunch, and a covered bench for parents to sit. Venturing out of the Pollywog Bog, you will find several more water features such as the Rainbow Mist, the Space Shuttle Mist, and the Dinosaur Mist areas. There is also a small fountain for the smallest children to get their toes wet as well as bubbling rocks to play with. Bathrooms are conveniently located in the Purdy Butterfly House inside the Children’s Garden. This is an amazing, often not crowded, place to spend the afternoon!

Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Splashpad
Location: 4600 Blue Spring Road, Huntsville

This is another of Huntsville’s hidden gems when it comes to summertime fun. It includes one large pavilion filled with picnic benches along with numerous shaded benches spread around the splash pad. There is easy access to the bathrooms and locker rooms just inside the building. It is also fenced in which adds to the safe atmosphere. Our favorite part is the huge dunk bucket that dunks every 3 minutes!
