Nike launches new maternity sports wear collection

Nike believes that mothers are the ultimate endurance athletes. That’s why the sports apparel and accessories company is launching the Nike (M) collection, a special line of athletic gear designed with moms in mind.

“It’s the project of a lifetime to work in lockstep with all kinds of mothers to bring to life a capsule that truly supports women’s relationship with sport during such a transformative time in their lives,” Carmen Zolman, Nike Senior Design Director for Apparel Innovation, stated in an online announcement about the new line.

The Nike (M) collection includes the Nike (M) Pullover, the Nike (M) Swoosh Bra, the Nike (M) Tank, and Nike One (M) Tight.

The Nike (M) sports bra is designed to give moms easy access for breastfeeding. You can wear the leggings over or under your tummy. And the tank has extra material for the extra weight moms carry during and after pregnancy.

To design the collection, Nike studied more than 150,000 comparison scans of non-pregnant women against those of pregnant women. Designers also gathered detailed feedback on fit, feel, and function from nearly 30 female athletes who were pregnant or postpartum.

For its online announcement about the new line, Nike spoke with the United States women’s national soccer team member and Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan, retired British track and field athlete Perri Edwards, and U.S. Women’s Open Champion golfer Michelle Wie West.

Wie West, who welcomed daughter Makenna on June 19, 2020, is a big fan of the Nike (M) Tight.

“I loved how soft the tights were and the fact that if you were a size medium before, you could be a size medium in the Nike (M) line,” she states in the article. “It takes the guesswork out of everything and it boosts your confidence. It’s like skin: it’ll shrink back. It grows with you. It decreases with you. I love that it’s part of your journey.”

The Nike (M) collection launches September 17 in North America, Europe, and Africa on nike.com.
