Midwives and doulas may seem similar, as their roles both include helping women throughout their pregnancy. But, there are some key differences between their titles.
A midwife is a healthcare provider who has the education and training similar to a nurse. They can deliver babies in hospitals, birthing centers, and most often, for women who want to birth in the comfort of their own homes.
Doulas on the other hand aren’t healthcare professionals, but they are trained to help you throughout your pregnancy. They offer techniques to help manage pain during birth and pregnancy, labor, and postpartum support. Some can also offer breastfeeding support, among other things.
