If you have given birth what do you wish you would have known about labor and the birth experience? If you haven’t given birth what are some of your concerns?

I wish I knew how long my labor would be. I’m telling myself it’s only temporary and worth it, but I am concerned of how bad the pain will be. I’m trying to go the natural route. Fingers crossed!

Kristine said it best plan but know everything can change and go with what’s best for the safety of you and your child

Anything can happen – plan but don’t over plan.

Its highly unlikely that your birth will go exactly as planned.

There will be choices that will need to be made on the spot that maybe you didn’t think would be possible.

I wish I had known that my boy would come 5 weeks early and I should prepare early :)

What would you have done to prepare? Regular get the nursery ready or something to help with premature birth?

I wish I had known how fast my labor would progress. I was induced and things went pretty quick. We left our snacks in the car & then weren’t able to go get them as my labor got to 2min within a couple hours. I wish I had brought the snacks with us. I also wish I had bought a labor gown for postpartum recovery. I was drowning in the nursing hospital gown….it was HUGE & scratchy. I wish I had thought about saying I wanted to sit up when pushing instead of reclined. I thought my midwife would tell me when I could. I wish I had asked my husband to get more pictures or video of delivery.

I wish I knew how painful it would be following labor and delivery. I imagined this perfect, happy, pain free experience with my new baby, but it was not that at all!! And since no one really explained that to me beforehand, I thought something must have been wrong which kinda threw me into panic. I guess I would have been mentally prepared had I known. I was induced so they kept the Pitocin going for 12 hours after delivery which made me continue to contract. Then, when I would nurse, the contractions got worse. They should really consider leaving the epidural 😉

I wish I knew I could have asked for a different nurse. My labor was going alright until my awesome nurse was switched out for one who tried to tell me not only had my dilating gone backwards, she couldn’t find my cervix at all and my OB was giving me 2 hours to pop that baby out before taking me to a c-section. Cue massive spiral and calling my mom sobbing (she was in the hospital parking lot but because of Covid wasn’t allowed in). If I had just taken a deep breath and said I would like a different nurse, or to see the charge nurse, or just anything, I think it would have been much better. :(

I wish someone prepared me for the first bowel movement after a cesarean. Whew! It felt like labor all over again.

I haven’t given birth yet but I’m preparing myself for it by taking birthing classes. I wish there’s an actual video of the whole process so i can be more visually be more mentally prepared
