Have you ever heard of Nature-deficit disorder?
Nature-deficit disorder is the idea that human beings, especially children, are spending less time outdoors, and the belief that this change results in a wide range of behavioral problems. This disorder is not recognized in any of the medical manuals for mental disorders, such as the ICD-10 or the DSM-5. Wikipedia
Join us for a 1 hour educational session at the Couchville Lake Pavilion. Topics will include: Water, Soil, and Recycling.
Children are encouraged to participate in all three learning activities from August through November, and wil be recognized for completing three seperate learning topics.
We will be focusing on one topic at a time starting with Water, then going to Soil, and finishing with Recycling.
Join us for all three topics to earn recognition for their achievment. If you cannot participate at Long Hunter State Park or miss a week, check out one of our fellow parks that are offerring this series of programs: Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, Cedars of Lebanon State Park, or Henry Horton State Park!
Participants will explore the Couchville Lake Area at LHSP with our staff who have been trained and specialize in teaching children about playing safely in nature. Our staff will teach from the curriculum derived from Project Wild.
A parent or guardian is required to stay on-site within viewing distance of the program area.
While participation from the parent or guardian is not required, we encourage you to be involved in the learning process throughout the 1-hour session.
