Halloween is going to look a little different this year compared to the fun door-to-door trick-or-treating and hayrides we’re used to. With COVID-19 forcing us to celebrate the holiday at a safe social distance, we’ve gathered everything you need to have a fun, happy, and healthy Halloween that follows all of the CDC’s guidelines.
Decorate a Pumpkin
It’s not safe for toddlers and smaller children to carve pumpkins, so here are some fun no-carve pumpkin ideas for them to try.
Paint a Pumpkin
Definitely the easiest option when it comes to children decorating pumpkins. You can give them the paint and let them have it. Tape off fun designs underneath to peel off once it’s dry or use finger paints for a more hands-on activity.
Pumpkin Push-In Kits
Most stores have these push-in kits you can buy in all different kinds of characters from Paw Patrol, Toy Story, Minnie Mouse, and more. These are very easy for smaller kids to create a cool pumpkin. Some even come with paint so the pumpkin can match the character.
Use Temporary Tattoos
This is one of the coolest ideas I’ve come across. You can find so many different packs of tattoos online and once they peel off the pumpkin, you can decorate them again.
Go on a Halloween Scavenger Hunt
Take a walk around the neighborhood with your child and see how many of the items on the list they can find. If you want to make it more of a game, you can also do a Bingo version to see who can get five in a row first.
Watch a Toddler-Friendly Halloween Movie
Small kids definitely aren’t ready for the scary movies mom and dad may want to watch. But, there are still some great options for the whole family to enjoy. Our Top 10 list includes:
- Monsters Inc.
- Hotel Transylvania
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- Coco
- Spooky Buddies
- Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie
- Toy Story of Terror
- Curious George: A Halloween Boofest
- Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Mickey’s Treat
- Super Monsters Save Halloween
