Lift Every Voice: A Black History Month Festival

Lift Every Voice is a three-day event that pays tribute to the outstanding achievements of Black artists in the community. The festival encompasses a diverse range of art forms, including theatre, dance, music, poetry, art, literature, panels, talkbacks, and workshops. All ages and communities are invited to attend this celebration, which showcases the talents of Black artists, educators, and organizations. With a goal of promoting and recognizing Black history, Lift Every Voice is made possible thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.

Don’t Tell Me I Can’t Fly

A new play titled “Tonia Bridge” depicts the story of a nine-year-old African-American girl growing up in a working-class home in Milwaukee in 1964. The protagonist, Tonia Bridge, struggles to reconcile her artistic soul with her parents’ fears and practicality. She tries to please her mother by wearing conservative clothing and tries to impress her father with a science project. Still, she ultimately finds her path by allowing her parents to see her true self, complete with flaws, beauty, and potential. The play explores identity, family, and self-expression themes in a time of cultural change.

Sweetheart Swan Note Holder Workshop

Lowe’s Sweetheart Swan Note Holder Workshop is a fun and creative Valentine’s Day activity for kids. In this workshop, young DIYers have the opportunity to build their own Swan Love Note Holder, which can be given as a gift for the holiday. Parents should note that if they are unable to attend the workshop during their selected timeslot, the kit may be given away to walk-ins starting at 1:00 pm on the day of the event. This workshop is a great opportunity for kids to get in the Valentine’s Day spirit and make something special for someone they love.

McWane’s Big Machines Day is a fun-filled day of science, learning, and excitement in Birmingham, Alabama. McWane Science Center and Craneworks are joining forces to bring this popular event to the community. Children can participate in hands-on activities, and interactive exhibits focused on big machines and construction. Participation is included with the cost of admission to McWane Science Center, making it convenient and affordable for families to enjoy a day of science-based fun.

Monster Jam is an exciting event where kids can witness the power and thrill of monster trucks in action. One hour before the event, the Monster Jam Trackside starts, allowing fans to get up close and personal with the massive trucks and meet their favorite drivers and crews. You can also get autographs, take pictures, and immerse yourself in the Monster Jam experience. After the event, there is a Winner’s Circle Meet and Greet where fans can further connect with the drivers and their trucks.
