Six Baby Registry Essentials for First Time Moms

Mom scoops out baby's boogers with Oogiebear tool

When I found out I was expecting I was ecstatic! Pregnancy didn’t come easy for me so when I got the call from the doctor that I was pregnant, I immediately started my baby registry. I looked at all the checklists and added over 200 items to my list. By the time my daughter was born, I was sure I had everything I needed—or so I thought.

When I made my registry having to clean boogies out of my newborn’s nose hadn’t occurred to me or how the diaper cream was going to get on her (and only her) during changes. My husband and I often found ourselves saying “There must be something out there that helps with…”

After doing some research online, I found exactly what we needed. Here are the 6 items I wish I had put on my baby registry from the beginning.

1. Oogiebear

Oogiebear booger tool

The Oogiebear  is a lifesaver for cleaning little noses! It is double-sided with a loop on one side (good for stringy boogies) and a scoop on the other side (good for more solid boogies).

The bear on each side acts as a guard against going too far up baby’s nose. This tool can also be used to clean out ears, with the bears, again, making sure you don’t go too far into the ear.

2. Babybum Diaper Brush

The Babybum Diaper Brush set is invaluable when it comes to diaper changes! It’s made from silicone which makes it soft and super easy to clean. The bottom is a suction cup which keeps it from tipping over, and the top is tapered to help get out every last bit of cream from the tub. The mini version is amazing for the diaper bag since it doesn’t take up much space and comes in a little case so it stays clean in the diaper bag too.

3. Johnson’s Head-to-Toe Bath Wipes

Next is Johnson’s Head-to-Toe Bath Wipes. Babies are adorable, but they are also masters of spit up and messes at the worst times. These wipes are basically a bath on the go. Better than baby wipes, they are extra-large (about the size of 2 baby wipes) and extra thick. They can be used from head to toe and don’t require rinsing. Even though the pack comes with 15 wipes it’s thin enough to slip into the diaper bag without taking up much space.

4. Ubbi Retractable On The Go Bag Dispenser

This FTM didn’t even think about having to do a diaper change in the trunk of my SUV in the parking lot of the tax office, let alone where that diaper and wipes were going to go until I found a trash can. The Ubbi Retractable On The Go Bag Dispenser securely holds a roll of 12 bags big enough for any mess. I also love having these bags on hand to hold wet/dirty clothes while we are out. They contain the mess and odor until I get home or to a trash can.

5. Munchkin Arm and Hammer Pacifier Wipes

Munchkin Arm and Hammer Pacifier Wipes are great for a quick clean on the go. The pack comes with 36 wipes that can be used to easily clean pacifiers, cups, and teethers. The wipes contain 100% food-grade ingredients that are safe for cleaning items babies will put in their mouths.

6. Medela Quick Clean Steam Bags

Lastly, I have the Medela Quick Clean Steam Bags. These bags are great for sterilizing bottles, pacifiers, and pump parts when you are away from home. They are great for going on vacation or to have at Grandma’s house.

A single bag can be reused 20 times before needing to be tossed. All you need is a microwave and water to sterilize. They are also awesome for the working mom who needs to sterilize her pump parts while at work or away from home.

I have shared these 6 items with every FTM friend I have. They always say, “I never thought of this, but I love it!”

What are some of your essential items?

  1. The Oogie Boogie is so good, but so is the Nose Frida! As soon as you get over having to suck the snot out, the Nose Frida is a lifesaver!

  2. I’ve been debating about getting the diaper brush but after reading this article I’ve added it to my registry.

  3. So honestly I had just been using my finger to get out boogers. Wow I need this like now. Because my daughter hates my nails. Ok but did even know the head to toe wipes existed!!!! Wow game changer.

  4. I had been using a q-tip with some of the cotton ripped off to even fit up there – and she hated it! Got this thing and she barely even notices it.

I used one of the bath wipes the other day to do a quick clean after playing with chalk. Worked great!
